S3: BodenPlatt AAR
BodenPlatte saw the 487th FS flying in the same action as its namesakes. During the real BodenPlatte operation, the 487th under Col John Meyer shot down over 50 LuftWaffe planes.
During our BodenPlatte, the 487th FS conducted many of the same missions.
Frame One saw Sick leading several Mustangs of the 487th FS and 4th FG on a fighter-bomber mission. However other Allied units reported being heavily engaged so we dumped our bombs and climbed to the attack. During the furball Dune shot down a Me 109. However, his plane exploded when its gear collapsed on landing. Sick and Magnet also earned kills of Fw 190s.
During Frame Three the 487th FS encountered the LuftWaffe's newest weapon for the first time. During this frame the 487th engaged several of the new Me 262 jet fighters. Bonger got behind one and sent it down in flames. He also accounted for another kill later in the mission. Unfortunately Pnus was lost to AA fire.
Frame Four saw the 487th FS in P-47D's due to supply problems. We did not fare very well during this frame as Bonger, Dune and SD were lost.
